Abstract

Title:Parametric seismic analysis of different strengthening measures for masonry building from Posočje region considering results of non- destructive testing : master thesis No.: 298/II. GR
Abstract:
In the master's thesis, an analysis of the seismic resistance of an existing stone building in the Posočje region has been conducted. Additionally, a study of strengthening measures has been performed, with their financial viability evaluated. The theoretical part introduces key characteristics of the masonry structures behavior during earthquakes. It describes the mechanisms of in-plane and out-of-plane wall failure. Subsequently, the essential procedures for assessing seismic resistance in accordance with Eurocode standards SIST EN 1998-1 and SIST EN 1998-3 are presented. In-situ ground-penetrating radar investigations were carried out on the structure, primarily aimed at determining the structure of the stone walls. The building was seismically assessed using nonlinear static (pushover) analysis (N2), employing the 3Muri software. In its initial condition, the structure only met 20 % of the Eurocode requirements regarding the earthquake load. Various strengthening measures were applied to the structural model until all Eurocode requirements were met. The response of the building was tested for various strengthening techniques like prestressed steel ties, the installation of composite slabs, the replacement of timber floor structures with reinforced concrete slabs, the substitution of thin brick walls with thicker modular blocks, the injection of stone walls, and the installation of a reinforced concrete frame structure within the existing building. In the final chapter, a cost-benefit analysis was carried out considering different strengthening measures. It was determined that the introduction of reinforced concrete frames within the building would be the most competitive option to ensure seismic safety of the structure.
