The thesis deals with the copulative clauses issues, i.e. sentences with the form nominal phrase – copula “ be” ¬– nominal phrase. The views of some Slovenian linguists are presented at first. Then the thesis summarises the theory in Slovenian grammar and in the scientific article by Jože Toporišič, and after that the reflections of Janez and Varja Orešnik and Olga Kunst Gnamuš. The thesis then briefly introduces the theory of functional sentence perspective. The conducted survey shows the prevalent choice of the form of the verb “to be” among language users and the influence of functional sentence perspective. The results show that the dominant choice is the form of the verb to be, that matches the nominal phrase behind the verb. It also shows that the functional sentence perspective does not affect the choice of the verb form.
