Abstract

Abstract:
This evaluation of opportunities for learning Slovene as a non-mother tongue begins with a short excursion into the past - to the time when the Slovene Language Summer School was combined with the Slovene language courses at the Seminar of Slovene Language, Literature and Culture. There follows a description of the rapid development and promotion of the range of Slovene language courses offered by the Centre for Slovene as a Second/Foreign Language in the 1990s. An overview is then given of the present situation at the Centre for Slovene, as well as other institutions in Slovenia. The paper concludes with a look at what the future might hold.
