The paper considers critical discourse analysis (CDA) as one of the methodological infrastructure resources of Slovene linguistics. The fundamental challenges of the discipline are discussed from critical extra-disciplinary and intra-disciplinary viewpoints. The first critical stance is based on different epistemological approaches and concepts of subjectivism and objectivism, and is thus less relevant for the development of CDA. The second, which comes from researchers within CDA, is more constructive as it stresses the need for reflecting on the role of CDA as a research and academic movement.
