Contemporary Slovene literature is a complex ideological and aesthetic phenomenon, which has survived as a significant factor in forming the national identity. It is a bearer and a protector of this identity, which is free of tradition and dogma. It is based on the needs of communication, tries to find its own way in the maze of questions that reality offers, and so it appeals to the inner world of human feelings and thoughts; it explores the "arena of life" and through man comes to an understanding an essence of social conflicts.
