The paper deals with phenomena of alienation in the works of selected modern female Slovene prose writers. It looks closely at both collections of short prose by Maruša Krese Vsi moji božiči (2006) and Vse moje vojne (2009), the collection of short prose by Erica Johnson Debeljak Tako si moj (2007), the collections of short prose by Suzana Tratnik Na svojem dvorišču and Česa nisem razumela na vlaku (2008). The text examines phenomena of alienation formed in the painful relation between home and far away, and various expressions of existential alienation of authors/first person narrators in a modern environment.
