The thesis presents the Slovenian drag scene and the specific gender understanding of the performing kings and queens of the contemporary drag scene in Slovenia. The theoretical foundations are complemented by a fieldwork conducted among the drag kings and queens and their audiences in Ljubljana. The author first presents various scientific definitions of drag kings and queens and, with gender considerations in mind, provides guidance for the appropriate terminological usage in the Slovenian context. Then, based on the historical development of the queer community and spaces in Slovenia, it outlines the development of drag in Slovenia. The thesis then describes the theatricality of drag and, from this perspective, traces the development of drag art, before summarizing the characteristics of contemporary drag - the drag persona, camp, the community of drag performers and the ritualized nature of the performances. Among other things, it addresses the question of the politicalness of drag, providing arguments through examples of gender-bending practices that occur during the performances of drag kings and queens. Above all, the thesis illustrates the heterogeneity of the Slovenian drag scene.
