Abstract
V pričujočem delu raziskujem fenomen ljubljanskih blokovskih sosesk, ki so v procesu načrtne urbanizacije Ljubljane nastale v drugi polovici dvajsetega stoletja oziroma v obdobju socializma.

Title:Painting and social housing / Painting and social housing
Abstract:
In this work, I explore the phenomenon of Ljubljana's block neighbourhoods, which emerged in the second half of the twentieth century, or during the socialist period, as part of Ljubljana’s planned urbanisation process. I am interested in the circumstances of their creation and the changed way of life caused by the intensive industrialization and the migration of large numbers of people from the countryside to the cities in the twentieth century. In this text, I touch upon the housing situation in Ljubljana from the period after the end of the First World War to the present day. Hence, one of the central questions is the relationship of the block of flats in question with developments in the field of fine art. The focus of my interest is not only in the history of street art or graffiti in the Ljubljana area but also the influence of the block neighborhoods on the emergence of artistic genres that appeared in the Slovenian space after the break-up of the common state in the 1990s. In my artistic practice, I am addressing the theme of the block neighborhoods and the urban lifestyle in Ljubljana through the prism of painting and its inherent gesturalism. With murals that explore the relationship between block neighborhoods, street art, and painting in a visual sense, I want to contribute my own vision and experience of Ljubljana's block neighborhoods to the field of urban creativity, which I encompass in the research part of this thesis.
