Photovoltaic power plants present a negative factor in the electrical power system, because due to cloud transitions their output power fluctuates, which represents a problem of maintaining a balance between production and consumption of electrical energy. The current solutions are financially unfavourable, so the diploma thesis presents a solution that predicts the short-term power of the photovoltaic power plant in relation to the basis of cloud travel.
With the help of a camera and a processor card, we capture the image of the sky above the power plant, which is software processed and the algorithm forecasts passage of clouds between the sun and the photovoltaic module. The obtained information allows us to gradually reduce or increase the output power of the photovoltaic power plant before or after the time of cloud transition, so the output power does not have instantaneous changes that make it difficult to maintain balance in the network.
