Venezuela has the world's largest reserves of crude oil, so it is hard to understand why is Venezuela struggling economically. The country found itself in severe socio-political and economic crisis. As a result, the population lives below the poverty line, lacks the basic necessities for survival and massive human rights violation (McCoy, Pantoulas, 2019). In my diploma thesis, which is a sociological-geographical analysis and reflection, I will focus on how it is possible that living conditions in Venezuela are so bad, despite the large availability of oil and its good geographical location.
