Inside the following diploma thesis is a presentation of the potential, use, and meaning of wood pellets in Slovenia. I focused more on the grading of wood pellets inside individual quality classes. I chose eight different wood pellets to analyse, which consisted of ash content, water content, content of volatile matter, and their calorific value. The tests for the analyses were done in the fuel laboratory of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering UL in the department for materials and metallurgy. The results were analysed and compared in a spreadsheet, which is included under the conclusion.
In the first part of the diploma, I looked more closely at the term wood pellets, their sources and resources, manufacturing methods, purchase options with prices, and storage. I also included the definition of energy, the meaning of fuels in general, the use of fuel in Slovenia, and more in depth, the use of biomass as fuel in Slovenia.
