Abstract

Title:TIME TRANSFER IN MARITIME NAVIGATION
Abstract:
The primary focus of this thesis was on the process of transmitting time data which plays a crucial role in maritime navigation. This process begins with the generation of accurate time in reference institutes and continues with the transmission of this reference time to the end users, be it via wired or wireless methods. In the theoretical part, we described in detail how the time signal is generated, transmitted, and then synchronized with the final navigation devices. We highlighted various challenges that can occur during transmission, such as attenuation of the signal or unexpected delays, and how these problems affect the accuracy of the navigation systems. The main objective of the research was not only to understand these challenges but also to investigate possible methods to improve the accuracy of time transmission and its synchronization with navigation devices. To achieve this, we applied descriptive and comparative analysis methods, thoroughly investigated various written and online sources, and analyzed existing technologies. Despite the high accuracy of modern technologies, we found that they can be susceptible to various external influences and attacks, which underlines the importance of continuous improvement and innovation in this field.
