Abstract
Uvod: Človekovo dostojanstvo je osnovna dobrina posameznika in hkrati osnova vseh človekovih pravic. Title:The experience of disrespect of dignity during labour : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Human dignity is the basic good of the individual and of all human rights. The problem of withdrawal the dignity of the childbearing woman is complex and multifaceted, and it is important to understand its determinants. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma is to determine how women in labor feel disrespect for dignity and the possible effects of disrespect for dignity by medical personnel on the course of labour. Methods: A qualitative work method was used. Four semi-structured interviews were conducted according to the snowball principle. The obtained data were analyzed using the grounded theory method in two steps. We used open coding in the first step and axial coding in the second step. Results: Trough the analysis of the interviews we obtained 3 categories: communication, interpersonal relationships and emotional and physical experience. Discussion and conclusion: The right to dignity of women in labour is violated all too often, which is also a reflection of the lack of professionalism of the medical staff. Women in labor experience disrespect for their dignity due to inadequate and disrespectful communication and the inappropriate attitude of medical staff, on an emotional and physical level. This is reflected in feelings of helplessness, redundancy and fear, which negatively affects the course of childbirth. It would be important to continuously improve the professional training of medical staff with greater awareness of the importance of compassionate and trusting relationship and effective, inclusive and respectful communication with women in labour.
