In my thesis, I will delve into the process of crafting concept art essential for the production of an animated film. I will explore various aspects, including character development, character design, environments, and objects that play a role in animation. Additionally, I will examine illustrations that delve into composition, mood, and atmosphere, as well as the utilization of colors and lighting (lighting key, color script) in different shots of the film.
The theoretical part of my research will encompass the aforementioned areas and the intricate process of their creation. It will shed light on the key elements that illustrators must consider and prioritize for each of these aspects. In the practical segment, I will focus on developing the visual representation of specific elements from Hans Christian Andersen's "The snow queen." Through the creation of a series of concept illustrations, I aim to capture the essence of chosen scenes by designing characters, and environments, and exploring their visual appearance in terms of composition, colors, lighting, and evoking the intended emotions and atmosphere conveyed by the story.
