Abstract

Title:THE IMPORTANCE OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS IN REDUCING CARBON EMISSIONS
Abstract:
The structure of the Master's thesis is divided into an introductory part and six chapters, which also include sub-chapters. The introductory part describes the subject of the research, the problem, the purpose and the objectives of the Master's thesis. The second chapter presents alternative fuels such as biofuels, oil and natural gas, electricity, synthetic and e-fuels, ammonia and hydrogen. Chapter 3 describes in detail alternative fuel technologies in various sectors, with a focus on road transport. For each sector, the alternative fuels currently used and those with potential for future development are described. The next section outlines the purpose of the Paris Agreement and the strategies and targets for reducing carbon emissions from transport. The next chapter examines global greenhouse gas emissions, providing an overview of the status of carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions, the situation in different sectors and the status of greenhouse gas and carbon emissions in Slovenia. Chapter 6 compares the carbon analyses for petrol, diesel and alternative fuel vehicles in the EU and Slovenia. The final section summarises the key findings regarding the types of alternative fuels that are most suitable for replacing fossil fuels in the EU and Slovenia.

Keywords:alternative fuels, carbon emissions, greenhouse gas, life cycle assesment
