The purpose of the thesis was to investigate and analyze traffic safety of young road users between 15 and 30 years of age. First at all, at the beginning of writing, we defined terms such as traffic safety and traffic accidents, which are very important terms for the entire thesis. We also described the three most important factors we know that cause traffic accidents in the first place, and which of these is the most common factor for traffic accidents. After that, we focused on topics that were related to young participants, which is the main motive of this diploma thesis. In the beginning, we broke down two concepts, namely who is a beginner driver and who is a young driver. In the case of young drivers, we also found out what their behavior characteristics are, because traffic accidents often occur precisely, because of their characteristics. Alcohol and drugs are also often involved in traffic accidents, which is why we dedicated a chapter in my thesis to them, as risky forms of behavior, and also described the kinds of distractions we encounter in traffic on a daily basis. In our thesis, we covered mandatory protective equipment, which young participants often do not use due to their characteristics. For a better comparability, we also researched traffic safety in foreign EU countries and made some comparisons and researched the measures and approaches of other countries for greater traffic safety. After all the theoretical work, we performed an analysis of the traffic situation of young drivers between 2012 and 2022. Based on the analysis, we were able to confirm or refute our basic thesis and research what measures are needed in Slovenia to improve traffic safety.
