Tristan in Izolda v opusu druge generacije prerafaelitskega slikarstva: Analiza del in razvoj upodobitev legende do 19. stoletja

Zaključna seminarska naloga se osredotoča na legendo o Tristanu in Izoldi. Prvi del naloge predstavi literarno tradicijo zgodbe od njenih začetkov, pa vse do 19. stoletja. Sledi razvoj upodobitev v srednjem veku, ki predstavljajo večino umetniških podob legende. Videli bomo, da je bila romanca upodabljana na različnih medijih in v številnih tehnikah, pri čemer pa so se skozi stoletja spreminjali ikonografski motivi. Drugi del naloge predstavi obuditev legende v slikarstvu druge generacije prerafaelitov in se posveti analizam podob legende v opusu Danteja Gabriela Rossettija, Edwarda Burne-Jonesa in Williama Morrisa.

• Title: Tristan and Isolde in the Second Generation of the Pre-Raphaelite Painting: Analysis of the Works with an Overview of Depictions of the Legend by the End of the 19th Century

Abstract

The final seminar paper focuses on the legend of Tristan and Isolde. The first part of the paper presents the literary tradition of the legend from the beginning of the its development to the start of the 19th century. The literary background is followed by medieval depictions, which present the majority of legend's artworks. The romance was depicted in various media, using different techniques, with some changes concerning iconographic motifs. The second part of the paper presents the revival of the legend in the painting of the second generation of the Pre-Raphaelite, accompanied with the analysis of romances' depictions, made by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris.
