We live in an era of intensive economic development and energy usage. The political and expertly consensus agrees that greenhouse gas emissions due to energy production consitute the primary reason for global climate change. The commitments given to the international community bind Slovenia into a carbon-neutral transition in just a few decades. Solar energy will have a big part in this, especially in the energy supply to buildings.
In this thesis we presented technology trends for heat and electrical energy production using solar energy in buildings and design of modern solar heating systems. With the help of the PURES3.xls software we have analyzed a single-apartment building suitable for a 3-member family with different energy sources for the production of warm sanitary water; we have discovered that the most energy-efficient system is solar heating in combination with biomass.
