We researched the production and use of wooden packaging in Slovenia. Types and intended use, as well as packaging legislation, was researched with a focus on wooden packaging. The design and characteristics of wooden packaging are largely adapted to the intended use or customer requirements. Wooden packaging is much preferable to plastic or cardboard packaging in terms of enhancing the circular economy, sustainability and reducing negative environmental impacts, although the use of the latter is increasing. Data on the production of wooden packaging in Slovenia are very scarce. The production of standardised transport packaging, i.e. EPAL pallets, is traceable, while all other production of non-standardised packaging is untraceable. A questionnaire was used to obtain information on the production of wooden packaging in Slovenia. The results of the survey showed that more non-standardised packaging is produced annually than standardised packaging, and that non-standardised packaging is very diverse. Of the standardised packaging, EPAL 1 pallets are the most commonly produced, and packaging is produced for both domestic and foreign markets.
