Since the end of the 20th century science has been striving to reduce environmental damage and use more environmentally friendly chemicals, thereby ensuring sustainable development of both industry and society. To this end, so-called green chemistry has been developed with a goal to satisfy current needs without compromising the needs of future generations. Eutectic solvents have been in the focus of interest recently because they can replace classical solvents in certain cases. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are environmentally friendly, stable and electrically conductive solvents that can be used for various purposes, including as an alternative to ionic liquids as gel electrolytes. As part of the thesis, the effect of the addition of DES during the gelation process on the preparation of alginate hydrogel had been investigated. It was determined that the addition of DES and changing the pH value can affect mesh size and consequently also diffusivity, permeability, etc. Mesh size and therefore permeability of hydrogels increases if DES are added or pH increased.
