In the theoretical introduction, various definitions of addiction, both chemical and non-chemical addiction, as well as the differences between low-threshold and high-threshold programs are presented. A chapter is dedicated to social work in the field of addiction and the factors that can lead to addiction.
Following the theoretical part, I present my research, in which I investigated the opinions of users of the Pelikan Institute regarding their two programs. The Pelikan Institute provides assistance to individuals struggling with addiction. The purpose of these two programs is comprehensive addiction treatment and abstinence from psychoactive substances.
I conducted a qualitative study, focusing on how users perceive the program's functioning, their view of the staff and their attitude, and the advantages and disadvantages that they would highlight in the program. I conducted seven interviews with users currently residing and undergoing treatment in the two programs.
The key findings of my research indicate that my interviewees have embraced the program's system in which they are involved and have quickly adapted to it. They mentioned missing personal time, outdoor activities, more sports activities, the opportunity for independent decision-making, family, and access to a phone.
