Ensuring optimal operation of hydraulic systems is critical, as they play a key role in many industrial applications today. Flushing the system, which is part of preventive and curative maintenance, removes various types of contaminants that pose a threat to operation. Various fluids are used for flushing, and the speed and efficiency of the process depends on their properties.
The aim of this work was to analyze the influence of different viscous fluids, which are most commonly used in hydraulics. For the analysis, we used a simple system on which we monitored the flushing efficiency. At the same time, we performed flushing with 3 of the most common hydraulic oils and compared the results. We determined the advantages and disadvantages of each oil and found that the optimal oil viscosity for flushing the given system is between 46 and 68 mm2/s at a temperature of 40 °C.
