Abstract

Abstract:
In order to harmonise the Slovene Consumer Protection Act with EU legislation, the term "Slovene language" had to be replaced with "easily understandable language" when referring to product labelling and advertising. A series of debates in the Slovene National Assembly was thus initiated demonstrating the language attitudes of Slovene political parties as well as deviations from them, mostly related to their (non-)governmental role. Finally, the attitudes of European and Slovene courts regarding "easily understandable language" are described.

Keywords:EU harmonisation, easily understandable language, political parties, language ideology, case law
