Abstract
Prispevek se osredotoča na socialno neenakost in govorni razvoj v razvojnih obdobjih malčka in otroštva ter na napovedno vrednost zgodnjega govornega razvoja za kasnejšo govorno kompetentnost. Govor otrok je v povezavi z razvojem mišljenja umeščen v sociokulturna teoretska ozadja, njegova dodana vrednost pa je razložena z otrokovim razvojem metajezikovnega zavedanja.

Abstract:
This article focuses on social inequality and language development during the developmental phases of toddlerhood and childhood, as well as on the predictive value of early language development on later language competence. In connection with cognitive development, child language is contextualised in socio-cultural theoretical backgrounds, and its added value is explained through childrenʼs development of metalinguistic awareness.
