In my thesis I studied IEC 60669-2-1:2021 which covers requirements for switches for household and similar fixed electrical installations (Part 2-1: Specific requirements - electronic controlgear). Then I designed an electronic load based on clause 101.5 of this standard, which prescribes specific requirements for dimmers, and carried out heating tests on a sample dimmer controlling this load. In order to build the load according to 101.5, I have studied the requirements of the standard that the load must meet. To perform the heating tests, I have examined the conditions under which the tests are to be performed and the parameters that must be met for the sample to pass the test.
The standard covers the requirements for electronic control devices and classifies them according to various parameters. Depending on the classification of the electronic control devices, it further defines which tests need to be performed for each device. One of these key tests is the heating test, for which I have developed a procedure within the needs of the Slovenian Institute of Quality and Metrology, SIQ.
