Abstract

Title:Minimalism and costume design
Abstract:
The thesis defines the philosophy of minimalism and its influence on life and art, highlighting the most important representatives of minimalism from various artistic directions. It briefly touches on their career path and highlights their most recognisable minimalist works. In the last chapter of the theoretical part, it presents cult representatives of theatrical minimalism, which is later connected to the experimental part, which investigates the importance of costume design in the theatre and the complexity of minimalistic designed costumes. The experimental part presents the production of modern, minimalist costume design for the naturalistic-realistic dramatic work A Doll's House (Nora), by the Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen, in which the essence of 19th-century fashion is intertwined with the aesthetics of Robert Wilson and Frida Parmeggiani, who complete the theoretical part. The thesis summarizes the use of minimalism as a means of expression, highlighting the importance and magic of its use in the theatre world, and at the same time represents a strong starting point for my future costume design career with a minimalist vision.
