Abstract

Title:Analysis of an automatic humidification system in a wine climate cabinet
Abstract:
Long-term wine bottle storage requires special conditions such as temperature, relative humidity, prevention of vibration, and absence of UV rays. Appropriate relative humidity levels should be maintained to prevent wine degradation. Values between 60% and 80% are recommended. An automatic humidification system was developed that does not require user monitoring or active participation, which represents a key advantage over other accessible wine climate cabinets. A solution using a fin-tube evaporator to collect water from frost was constructed. It was integrated into the existing vapor-compression system. A prototype sample of the wine climate cabinet was prepared. Experimental testing was done in a climate chamber. It was concluded that the optimal time for collecting frost is 75 minutes, which is followed by a 15-minute break to ensure the frost has melted and passed into the cabinet. The mass of accumulated water is linearly increased by increasing the speed of the compressor of the cabinet. A concept for distributing water into three equal parts was tested and confirmed, during which we established, that frost is not evenly distributed throughout the evaporator. The functioning of the concept was confirmed and propositions for future work were suggested.
