The monuments of Dušan Samec can be found in each of the seven municipalities in Zgornja Savinjska dolina. They manage to touch upon all the major stages of World War Two in the region, so I deemed them a suitable medium to outline the events of the war in this part of Slovenia. The first part of the thesis provides a broad overview of the general characteristics of the war and the partisan movement in Zgornja Savinjska dolina; the second part, through relevant monuments, delves deeper into some specific events of the National Liberation Movement and highlights the most notorious examples of violence, committed by the occupying German forces. While writing the thesis, I relied mainly on various monographic publications and scientific articles; to obtain the images of the monuments, I did some fieldwork, which allowed me to become more familiar with the regions where the partisans lived and fought. For easier spatial visualization, I have created a map, marking the locations of the individual memorials; said map is located at the end of the thesis.
