Abstract

Title:Laser Gyroscope
Abstract:
Laser gyroscopes are an indispensable tool in modern navigation technology and are used in various applications, from aviation to smartphones. They are based on the Sagnac effect, which allows for determining changes in angular velocity using optical interference. As part of the final thesis, a laser gyroscope and a mechanism for rotating at a constant angular velocity were assembled. During the rotation, we observed the beat frequency on the oscilloscope with a photodiode and from the signals, we recorded the sensitivity of the gyroscope and determined the lock-in angular velocity. With this, we gained a more detailed understanding of the operation of the instrument and prepared a laboratory exercise for future generations of students.
