Urban brownfields represent one of the main problems and potential for the sustainable development of cities. Understanding and approaching the revitalization of such areas correctly is crucial. The purpose of this master’s thesis is primarily to explore and demonstrate the significance of urban brownfields and their role in the sustainable development of cities. In the first part of the thesis, I focus on researching professional literature on urban brownfields and reference cases. I then delve into the exploration of the broader context, the city of Ljubljana. I investigate its history and guidelines for further development. Since the development of the area along Parmova Street is directly connected to the development of the railway network, I research the history of railway development and various possible solutions for the Ljubljana railway junction. I start with the analytical part, where I analyze the area between Parmova Street and the railway, which is the subject of closer examination. In this section, I obtain guidelines for the design part that follows at the end of the thesis. In the design part, I present a conceptual urban design solution for the Parmova area, addressing the issues of degradation in the area.
