In master's thesis the methods of designing glass elements were discussed on the example of a transparent conservatory, where structural glass was also part of the load-bearing structure. Methods were used to check the capacity and strength of glass elements. Since the production of load-bearing glass elements as part of the structure has only advanced in the last 15 years, there is still no generally accepted European standard. There are manuals and guidelines for designing glass elements, as well as specific national standards. The thesis presents the design of a glass structure with laminated glass elements. Glass elements subject to lateral torsional bending and buckling and glass panes loaded out-of-plane are considered. The influence of the interlayer in laminated cross-section was presented. The problem of transferring methods published in the scientific literature to engineering practice was discussed as well. We conclude that information in scientific literature is often incomplete and unclear, and that further research is needed regarding the designing of glass. Part of the structure are also steel elements that form primary load-bearing structure.
