During the second half of the 20th century, Jože Toporišič established himself as the author or co-author of basic manuals of Slovene: he was the author of the first Slovene structural grammar and the main author of the new normative rules, as well as the chairman of the commission on orthography at the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts. This paper focuses on normative warnings regarding non-standard use in the two manuals.
