In the article the meanings of Slavic cases are discussed from the diachronic perspective, taking into account Miklošičʹs study of the syntax of cases in the Slavic languages, as well as the discoveries of comparative syntax of cases in Indo-European languages. On the basis of (Old) Church Slavic material, an attempt is made to reconstruct semantic changes of the case meanings from Late Proto-Indo- European to Late Proto-Slavic. The factors and the directions of semantic changes are identified.
