Associative memory is one of the fundamental cognitive mechanisms and it is defined as the ability to link and encode priorly unrelated items. As of today, standardised associative memory assessment tools have not yet been developed, while the existing ones are culturally biased. Aiming to overcome these limitations, picture based Associative Memory Test that includes measures of associative memory and item memory has been developed. The objective of the master’s thesis was to conduct psychometric analysis of the Associative Memory Test and validate the Slovenian adaptation. To examine convergent validity, two additional self-made item memory tasks and Mind Wandering Questionnaire were used. All the assessment tools were applied online to 141 participants. The results showed that the Associative Memory Test measures associative memory and item memory as expected. Considering reliability and convergent validity, the test indicated adequate results, however limitations of interpreting the internal structure emerged. Furthermore, the test proved not to be suitable for repeated assessment since participants improved their scores in the retest. Additionally, participants did not perform equally successfully in recognizing or recalling the stimuli that originated in different categories. I concluded there are several potential uses of the test in many populations.
