Abstract

Title:Students' reflection on clinical practice : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Reflection is described as a concept that can be defined as an individual's thinking based on their everyday experiences. In healthcare, reflection is a method by which students can improve and consolidate their knowledge, leading to personal growth. There are different types of models that can be considered and used for reflection. Since clinical education is part of academic education, students must meet certain standards and show progress from year to year. During clinical training in healthcare institutions, it is common for each student to be assigned a mentor. Mentoring is the establishment of a supportive interpersonal relationship between the mentee and the mentor. Recording reflections after practical training in summary folders provides a link between theory and practice. The summary portfolios allow us to obtain information about the student's progress and performance. Purpose: This work aimed to investigate whether third-year radiologic technology students reflect in relation to clinical practice and how students perceive writing reflections in summary folders. Methods: In the empirical part of the research, an online questionnaire was administered using the 1KA web-based program, which was completed by 25 surveyed 3rd year students of radiological technology. Results: Based on the results obtained, we found that students are predominantly reflective thinkers, which was confirmed by their responses that they learn from their own mistakes, update their knowledge, reflect on past experiences, reflect on previously learned theory and the work they do during clinical practice, but they still don't like to write their reflections in folders. Conclusion: The results of our research have led us to the following conclusion, according to which students often reflect on their experiences in clinical practise to find out what they have learned and how they can improve. For further research on this topic, we suggest a thorough review of the literature, articles and more attention to the inclusion of the questions that are part of the summary folders in the survey questionnaire. We propose to introduce a combination of specific questions from the Kolb and Gibbs models in the summary folders.
