This paper describes how the supply chain has developed and improved through time. It focuses on the introduction of the modern-day lean supply chain. The theoretical part describes different types of supply chains, their development through history as well as the use of lean methodology and its importance. The aim of the paper is to determine advantages and disadvantages of a lean supply chain compared to the classic supply chain. It discusses lean methodology, which plays an important role in all manufacturing processes and in the field of supply as well. The empirical part discusses an example of a lean supply chain in a car manufacturing company, demonstrating the use of lean methodology on a practical example. It presents the results of a survey conducted in Slovenian companies about the effectiveness of supply chains and the introduction of lean methodology into supply chains. At the end, the results acquired from Slovenian companies and a large worldwide group about supply chains and the use of lean methodology are presented.
