In our thesis, we discuss the situation of the second generation immigrants from the republics of the former Yugoslavia and the influence of immigration on the development of their self-image. We focus on the subjective experience of individuals and his attitude towards the fact that he is a child of an immigrant. The thesis consists of two parts – the theoretical part and the empirical part. In the theoretical part, we examine the factors of immigration and the impact of immigration on the development of identity and self-image. We investigate discrimination in more detail and define the position of immigrants in Slovenia. In the empirical part, we present our research on individual feelings in connection with possible discrimination. We used a semi-structured interview to gain insight whether an individual may experience the feeling of otherness. The results of the survey show that being a child of immigrants does not pose significant problems for the respondents. However, we still cannot say with certainty whether discrimination against immigrants and their descendants in Slovenia has actually decreased or whether the absence of discrimination may be the result of their assimilation.
