Abstract
Na Japonskem obstaja zvrst pripovedne umetnosti, ki se je razvila iz budističnih pridig v pripovedniški odrski nastop. Imenuje se rakugo. Obstajata dve rakugo tradiciji (Edo in Kamigata), ki sta se razvili v mestih Edo, Kjoto in Osaka. Na prvi pogled se ti dve tradiciji zdita enaki oziroma zelo podobni. Tako pri Edo kot pri Kamigata tradiciji je pripovedovalec na odru oblečen v kimono; sedi na blazini in pripoveduje zabavne zgodbe; s pomočjo robčka in pahljače imitira različne objekte. Čeprav si tradiciji delita veliko podobnosti, ju njune razlike ločijo med seboj. Iz diplomske naloge je razvidno, da sta tradiciji Edo in Kamigata pravzaprav različni. Iz zgodovinskega pregleda je razvidno, da so, kljub enakemu izvoru, pripovedovalci Edo in Kamigata razvijali svoje umetniške sposobnosti v različnih urbanih okoljih, kar je pustilo svoj odtis na njihovih nastopih vse do danes. V nalogi so predstavljeni tudi glavni umetniki, ki so sodelovali pri razvoju in popularizaciji te gledališke zvrsti. Zaradi razlike v oddaljenosti od glavnega mesta in prisotnosti šogunove moči pripovedovalci Edo in Kamigata niso izkusili enake svobode pri ustvarjanju, kar je vplivalo na rakugo v obdobju Edo. Obdobje Meiji predstavlja novo obdobje tako za Japonsko kot tudi za rakugo, ki so ga sprva preganjali, nato pa prepoznali kot pomemben del japonske moderne umetnosti. Skozi primerjalno analizo so prikazane razlike v dialektu, vsebini zgodb in načinu nastopanja. Rezultat nam omogoča globlje razumevanje gledališke zvrsti rakugo, kot tudi na splošno območij Edo in Kamigata.

Title:History, Development and Comparison of Regional Varieties of Rakugo: Edo and Kamigata Traditions
Abstract:
In Japan, there is a narrative art that emerged from Buddhist sermons and evolved into a beloved storytelling performance. It is called rakugo. There are two rakugo traditions (Edo and Kamigata) that were developed in the cities of Edo, Kyoto, and Osaka. At first glance, they ap-pear to be the same or very similar. In both traditions, storytellers wear kimonos on stage; they sit on a mat while telling funny stories; imitate different objects with a fan and a handkerchief. Although both traditions share many similarities, their differences distinguish one another. The present thesis shows that Edo and Kamigata traditions are, in fact, different. The historical re-view will show that despite the same origin, Edo and Kamigata storytellers developed their art in different urban environments that left a footprint on it to date; it also presents the leading figures that participated in the development and popularisation of the art. Due to the different proximity to the capital and power of the shōgun, Edo and Kamigata storytellers shared varying levels of freedom that influenced rakugo in the Edo period. The Meiji restoration marked a new stage for Japan and rakugo, which was performed and recognised as an essential part of modern Japanese art. The comparative analyses reveal the differences in the plots, dialects, and ways of conduct-ing the performance. The results give a deeper understanding of rakugo in the Edo and Kamigata regions.
