Abstract

Abstract:
Although the Skalar Manuscript codex came into being less than fifty years after the era of Protestant literary language, its language differs considerably from that used by the main 16th-century Slovene writers. In addition to the differences in phonology and, to a lesser extent, in morphology, there are also noticeable differences in word choice. Skalar used a fair number of new borrowings, calques, and various derived words. Some of the overlapping vocabulary appears in new contexts or with altered meaning. The author also enriched the vocabulary to intensify the emotional reaction of the reader.
