In my master's thesis, I dealt with the well-known ancient mythical characters of Cinyras, the king of Cyprus and his daughter Myrrha. I presented the occurrence of incest between two characters and Myrrha's transformation. I referred to the previous sources of Ovid's story in the Metamorphoses, Book X. Then I explained the individual sections of the Latin text in more detail.
Next, I studied an Italian tragedy called Mirra, written by Vittorio Alfieri. Among other things, my purpose in writing my master's thesis was to show the similarities and differences, or discrepancies between Ovid's and Alfieri's stories. I also put great emphasis on the interpretation of the Italian text. I explained why the tragedy of Myrrha and the island of Cyprus were so important to the Italian poet and dramatist.
