The life and work of East Styrian priest, poet, historian, "national awakener" and preacher Anton Krempl (1790-1844) are presented. First, his influence, work, endeavours and his importance in the East Styrian cultural area are introduced. There follows a presentation of his works which influenced the development of the education system and the Slovene language. His work Dogodivščine štajerske zemlje (1844) made him the first Slovene in literary history to write and publish a history of Slovenes in the Slovene language. Literary history presents him as an "eloquent" speaker and to confirm or refute this statement, all of his 95 sermons - which present the largest part of his works - call for analysis.
