Creators of graphic signs must be aware of the meaning of the chosen graphic sign elements, as these will be representing the company. The graphic sign is the foundation of the brand because only through the brand the company is recognisable. We can say it is like the face of a company, which makes the company recognisable worldwide and as such bears great responsibility. All graphic signs represent something, but the question is, whether we know how to unravel and understand them. In my master’s thesis, I dealt with the shape, colours, and symbols in graphic signs, and tried to uncover what may be hidden in a graphic sign. In the empirical part, I studied if primary students understand graphic signs and if they can unravel them. I carried out the study with 9th grade primary school students participating in the Art Design course with the help of a didactic game, a research journal, and a lesson plan, part of which was also the independent design of their very own graphic sign. With my research, I want to have an impact on the way of teaching in art classes in the field of graphic design.
