The article deals with the prominent linguistic characteristics of a handwritten Styrian hymnbook from the mid-eighteenth century. It is the first Slovene record of the so-called Mariazell Songs. A manuscript description is also provided. Through analysis and comparison with other Slovene hymn writers (Stržinar, Lavrenčič, Paglovec, Plohel, Andohtlive pejsme), the Eastern Styrian source of the hymnbook is confirmed, though some writers from the Central Slovene linguistic area imitated the works.
