The master’s thesis tackles the problem of hearing damage caused by exposure to loud noise. Such exposure can cause incurable hearing disorders, which can have negative physical and psychological consequences. It is particularly prevalent among young people who attend nightclubs and loud concerts where very high sound levels occur. Although certain methods of protection are available on the market, they are often not used for various reasons and therefore fall short of solving the problem sufficiently.
A mobile application was developed in order to solve this problem. It monitors the volume levels of the environment, warns the user of danger, and suggests preventive measures. It also gives the user insight into the history of exposure, increasing risk awareness. The goal is to encourage positive changes in the user’s habits, prevent injury, and improve the quality of life.
The end result of the master’s thesis is a mobile application concept and a developed visual prototype, as well as a market entry plan.
