Three-dimensional characters are an integral part of the modern entertainment industry, especially video games development, which is a particularly technologically rapidly developing field nowadays. The main goal of the diploma is to get acquainted with this field, the process of creating digital characters and to study and test the most helpful design methods and techniques.
The theoretical part is divided into several chapters and subchapters. The first chapters cover the styles and areas of use of 3D characters and a description of the technical side of the production process. Next, basic modelling techniques and stages of model creation are listed and described, as well as the most popular and frequently used character creation programs.
The process of creating a 3D character is described in the experimental part. It begins with presenting an existing fantasy character and the selected references, then continues with the procedures for creating the character itself. It is divided into several parts, beginning with describing the process of modelling each part of the body, followed by designing accessories for the model. The next part concerns retopology and creating UV maps for each element separately followed by chapters that describe setting up and applying materials. The practical part ends with the process of lighting and rendering the scene.
The diploma results are static rendering images of the created 3D character. They cover different perspectives and views on the model.
