The thesis presents the role of a puppet in stimulating the child's speech. In the theoretical part,
language, communication, speech, milestones and factors of speech development are presented
based on the scientific writings. The role of adults in the development of a child is described
and how we can encourage the development in the family and in a kindergarten. A puppet, its
magical power and different types of puppets are also described. It is also written what role a
puppet plays in a kindergarten and in the child's development and what role educators have in
it.
In the practical part the story is presented. Based on that story, a simple manual mime puppet
has been made and introduced, which accompanies the entire course of the practical work. The
activities performed in a group are presented, from making puppets to spontaneous play with a
puppet and improvised theatre performance.
A puppet is an important motivator of pedagogigal work in a kindergarten. Since there are
children in the group who have speech problems, the purpose of the thesis has been to
investigate what role a puppet plays in encouraging speech in a kindergarten and if the set goals
can be achieved with it.
It has turned out that a puppet is very popular among children. It motivates them in different
areas and bring them together. It encourages children who are more reserved and have speech
problems and enables them to enrich their vocabulary and improve communication.
