The master's thesis discusses the educational concept of child-centeredness which has a significant impact on the family upbringing of new generations of children. We begin the discussion with a historical outline of the construction of childhood and raising a child from antiquity to modern times in various countries of today’s world. We illustrate that the concept of childhood as well as raising a child are social constructs that depend on both historical and cultural space. In following part of the thesis, we address the educational role of significant Others in the process of each individual’s humanization. We argue that the significant Others are those who by conveying to the children the demands of the symbolic world, affect their personality development, their inclusion and confine in the culture through formatting socially necessary character, libidinal economy of the individual, which dominates, preserves and reproduces the existing social relations in society. The issue of shaping an individual's personality which enables social existence and duration, we highlight also from the point of view of the educational requirements produced by the ideology of permissiveness and authenticity. We showcase that the ruling ideology of the consumer society with its educational expectations, which declaratively admit that they lead to the development of autonomous personalities, paradoxically reproduces conforming persons who structurally respond to the reproductive requirements of its society. However, more and more discussions both in the professional sphere and the general public that build on the basis of child-centeredness have appeared in the last decade. For this reason in the concluding part of the master’s thesis, we conduct a theoretical analysis of the literature which deals with the issue of chid-centerdness. Based on the educational instructions which the concept produces, we reveal some of its ideological extensions and overlaps and reflect on how they work. We argue that the concept of child-centerdness overlaps with the semantic field of the ruling ideological production and forms conforming individuals with a personality structure and adopted functional requisites of society that restore and preserve this society.
