The problem of health and healthcare is growing worldwide, so a new approach to healthcare architecture will be needed in the future. They are a unique challenge for future-oriented healthcare institutions. Not only must they meet the standards and basic requirements of patients and staff, but they must also make a positive contribution to the environment and society. The master’s thesis is an attempt to redefine the patterns of institutions for patients with chronic diseases.
The work deals with the location at URI Soča in Ljubljana, next to Kranjčeva in the north and at the end of Linhartova cesta. There has been a lot of talk and planning about this area in recent years. For many years, this area was covered by gardens, but now it is just a parking space, from where you can see the view of the Alps, Ljubljana Castle and Ljubljana Žale.
The master’s program is directly connected to the therapy building and consists of two parts. The first part is a new therapeutic department for patients with chronic diseases. The ward is made up of six houses, each with something different going on. They stay in the first house, and in the second they help very demanding patients. Specialist examinations are carried out in the third, and recreation is carried out in the fourth. In the fifth they get mental treatment, and in the last they hang out. All the houses are connected by a street, which is designed in such a way that the patients follow the events in the side green atria, and at the same time, by shifting the units, it stimulates the curiosity of the patients when exploring the room. The second part of the project is the conceptual design of the arrangement of the outdoor areas, which are intended for both patients at URI Soča and random visitors. It functions as an exercise room, outdoor waiting room and green park, and the herbal gardens help everyone to calm down and reflect.
The project promotes the development of an innovative health care model that focuses on healing, nurturing the body, mind and spirit. The center offers psychological therapies and complementary treatment that combines rehabilitation, physical activities and a home atmosphere. The idea is to offer a friendly and attractive space to improve the outcome of treatment. The entire concept is strongly connected to nature and creates a regenerative environment based on a biophilic design.
