The analytical research of this thesis consists of a general overview of the evolution of human language and key ideas present in this area of research. An overview of the evolution and systems of writing, as well as a definition of writing (or typing) today follows. The phenomenon of emojis is observed closer, which is analysed via relevant concepts from areas of communication studies and semiotics to find out how they bear meaning and how they are used. The project part of this thesis builds up a conceptual basis of key findings from the analytical part upon which speculative solutions to some deficiencies present in emojis today are developed. Afterwards, the overall results are presented and critically evaluated.
