This Master's Degree thesis deals with the preparation and implementation of the Matura examination in sociology during emergency remote education.
The theoretical part first explains the concept of General and Vocational Matura in Slovenia and presents the Matura examination in Sociology. Next, Matura is discussed through the mechanism of quality assessment and assurance which are defined by the principles of equity, equality and effectiveness. It is followed by the presentation of the epidemiological situation in Slovenia during 2020 and 2021 and the notion of emergency remote education, which is used in the Master's degree thesis to describe the redefinition of education during the covid-19 epidemic. Finally, on the basis of research, the gaps that appeared during the emergency remote education are presented: the loss of social, cultural and economic capital; the socio-economic standard as a factor of differentiation; the digital division between students during the covid-19 pandemic; the problems of effectiveness; the problems of responsiveness of institutions in charge of emergency remote education; the competence of teachers and gaps in carrying out the Matura examination during emergency remote education.
Quality assessment and assurance in the field of education can be considered at from several levels, therefore our research problem was verified on two levels: the national and the individual level in some selected schools in Slovenia. The empirical part first deals with the analysis of the data collected during the emergency remote education since we were interested to present how the prepared guidelines for effectiveness and fairness were carried out. We were also interested in the considerations in accordance with which the adaptations of the General Baccalaureate Examination for Sociology were prepared during emergency remote education. Therefore we carried out semi-structured interviews with the national Matura exam members. The ways of preparation and performance of the General Matura examination for Sociology during emergency remote education were checked on the level of selected schools through semi-structured interviews with teachers of Sociology and members of the School Matura Committee.
